Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) Highest mountain of the world

Mount Everest The highest mountain in the world is Mount Everest. Its peak rises to 8,848 m (29,028 ft 9 in) – the highest point in the world. First known as Peak XV on the Tibet - Nepal border, it was discovered to be the world's highest mountain in 1856 by the Survey Department of the Government of India, from theodolite readings taken in 1849 and 1850. Its height was calculated to be 8,840 m 29,002 ft. The mountain was named after Col. Sir George Everest (UK), who was Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843, and who, in fact, pronounced his name 'Eve-rest' as opposed to 'Ever-est'. Mount Everest is also known by the Tibetan name Chomolungma (Goddess Mother of the World) and by the Nepali name Sagarmatha (Forehead in the Sky). As you can imagine, being a child in Nepal can be very difficult. So much so that statistics tell us that many children in Nepal still do not live to see their fifth birthday. Here are some statistics regarding Nepal from the UNICEF web site: More than 50,000 children die in Nepal each year, with malnutrition as the underlying cause for more than 60 per cent of these deaths. Half of the children in Nepal are underweight and three-fourths of the pregnant women are anaemic. The detection of a few cases of wild polio virus in 2005, following five years without any case, indicates the challenge for cross-border transmission along the border with India. Fifteen per cent of Nepal’s wells are contaminated by arsenic. Despite Nepal's high overall coverage of accessibility to drinking water, access to improved water for deprived, disadvantaged communities and conflict-affected rural and fringe urban areas remains low. Smart Driving Licenses to reduce fraud and illegal activity in Nepal

Nepal has now started issuing its so called "Smart Driving License". Good The  (DOTM) Department of Transport Management has been bringing its long-planned smart driving license and will eventually replace all paper driving licenses currently in use. The latest issued driving licenses are very similar to bank ATM cards. They have in them an electronic chip which stores driver’s name, address, vehicle information and others. The DOTM has also moved all the old driving license data to a digital platform. According to news reports, the department plans to complete replacing the technology enabled licence within three to five years. Till date, the DoTM has issued around 2 million driving licences, out of which around 1.5 million are estimated to be active.  The introduction of the so called "Smart License" is said to reduce mismanagement among DOTM employees and other issues related to fake driving licenses.  The DoTM initiati

Panauti Panauti Village is a small town located 32 km south-east of  Kathmandu . It is one of the oldest towns in Nepal. It still has the feeling of the medieval period and it has a lot of ancient houses and  temples . The town is located junction of two holy rivers of Roshi Khola and PungamatiKholaa.  Panauti Village is filled with ancient temples and settlements. The town has been left the same way the founders left it in the medieval period. Panauti Village has never been damaged extremely by the earthquakes. So, the structures and temple were never altered or structurally improved in any way. These architectures have the essence of traditional skills and materials. Traditional costume of Nepal Talking about traditional costume of Nepal it would be right to say not "costume" but "costumes" because though Nepal is a small country there are many ethnic groups living here and each group has their unique traditional dress. I will tell about a few that I find most interesting. The Newars . This ethnic group has many different styles of dress among themselves but there is one common thing - they prefer combinations of black and red colours. The most common seen Newar woman's dress is the   hakku potashi , a black sari with red borders. Young girls wear it knee level,  but older women prefer to completely cover their legs. The sari is complimented by a white   patuka  wrapped aroud the waist and a cotton shawl wrapped diagonally over the blouse.
