    Buddha passed away at the age of 80. Before he left, he asked his disciples to visit his birthplace Lumbini, at least once in their lifetime. He also asked them to spread this message among others. He said that it could be their first step towards salvation. One of the major attractions in that place is the Ashokan pillar, built around 250 BC by the Indian Emperor Ashoka, to mark the birthplace of the ‘Light of Asia’. It was found in around 1896 AD after which the area was recognized as one of the four main Buddhist pilgrims’ site. Another attraction is a holy pond, it is said that Mayadevi, mother of Buddha, took a dip inside the pond before giving him birth and also, where Buddha had his first bath.       How to Find a Toilet in Kathmandu? People often remark on the lack of infrastructure in Nepal and I agree. Sometimes even finding a clean toilet can be a problem. I’ve learned a few tricks during my 5 years in Nepal this is one of them. First, you can ask to use the toilet anywhere and no one ever seems to mind, however you will find toilets locked in many businesses. Someone will be happy to provide you with a key. You will come upon some toilets that are monitored by a woman who sits there and expects 5-20 rupees per use. Sometimes these toilets are a bit cleaner, but not always. The cleanest toilets are at banks. I was quite surprised to find a condom dispenser of free condoms in the ladies toilet in the Standard Chartered Bank in New Banaswhor, but it’s the same with most toilets at banks.     Shivapuri National Park is widely popular among the people who love to hike and trek in Kathmandu. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Kathmandu. Just for a day’s hike it’s a very tiring but refreshing walk or rather a hike in the lush damp green forest which is totally worth every aching muscle in your legs. I had heard about Shivapuri hike being great and been to Nagi Gompa on an excursion via jeep drive rather than a hike. So, I was pretty excited to finally hike there. Oh God, there is a whole bunch of hikes and treks still on my wish list! For this trip, my best friend and I grouped with our new friends from Champadevi hiking Alina and Pramesh along with two new people Sailendra and Manish.
